Cookie Scottorn
Here's today's conundrum. Picked it up in a charity shop this weekend thinking it would be fun and easy to ID - no chance! Any ideas? It's a small wheelthrown stoneware mug glazed in a mottled yellowy-brown (not my favourite) with an applied motif opposite the handle with raised dots. The handle is really nicely applied with three lobes. There are two stamps, VC and what looks like a horse and rider. Thought it might be Lady Godiva or an ancient Greek rider? 6cm (height)
There were a couple of other pieces by the same potter so might go back next weekend if you guys like the look of it

Aha, found one with the same mark today in a local charity shop with a paper label -

OMG that's amazing - I already have a piece by her, a tiny slip-carved jug - found in my local Auction Centre but unmarked. I only know it was by her because it had her business card folded up in it. There must be someone up here with a link to her! Thank you so much

That's a lovely jug.

Her handle ends are very distinctive. Does the jug handle have the same shape?
Here's the one I saw today:

ooo - that's lovely isn't it? I've been kicking myself by the way because the business card I found in the little jug has the same horse and rider motif on it that she uses on her stamp - doh! And yes, the jug has the tri-lobed base, must be one of her signatures.
Re: Cookie Scottorn
I found another one . This one's in the style of my little jug but the label says she was living in Reading when it was made whereas the jug dates from when she was in Nettlebed, nr Henley-on-Thames. Like the jug, unmarked. Lid broken and badly mended. 10.8cm (height).
Re: Cookie Scottorn
I found another one in Oxfam Unmarked but with the tri-lobed handle. Stoneware, with resist decoration this time - bit of a half-way house between her slip-carved stuff and her standard ware. I have also discovered that she was exhibiting as recently as 2009 as part of the Bix Six (!) during the Henley-on-Thames area annual Art Trail. 10cm (height)
