Reg Lloyd was born in Hereford in 1926 and lives in Devon. His work is included in the collections of the V&A Museum, National Marittime Museum and Tate Gallery amongst others but it was through pottery that I first got to know him. Although he collected the odd piece of 20th century studio pottery, his main interest was earlier English slipware and what was his collection now graces the Burton Art Gallery in Bideford, North Devon.

The painting above, Figures and Nets dates from 1965 and his executed in coloured inks on paper.

Not keen on his railway bridge , but the top one, "figures and nets" is a stronger more interesting work imo.

I tried to mix up the selection and may add a few more at some point.

He has made a few pots as well or more precisely decorated items made or thrown by others. One of his sons, William Lloyd, did make earthenware pottery for a number of years but stopped a while ago.

This mural was featured on the BBC series New Tricks recently in what was supposed to be a hospital and remained as background for a considerable time, as conversations took place in front of it.

It is also likely that Reg's work might achieve further exposure on "Come Dine With Me" no less. I was asked recently by the production company to get permission from him for one of his paintings to appear in the background of one of the dining rooms, i.e. battlefields that they were about to film in.
