Chinese Famille Jaune (yellow) mid 20thC CHINA mark

Hi These are my latest finds and I trust your opinions the most. I found three pieces of these Famille Rose footed dishes. This is the big one.I have to go to work or Id put one of the others up as it is different
Since everyone on the internet pieces are always priceless antiques or in the case of my real find of the Roseville Pauleo (to some, not here) junk, I feel comfortable coming here where I don't get the feeling of sour grapes as I do from many on fleaBay.
This is the big one about 14.5" long
11" wide and about 3" high
it feels like heavy stoneware, thick, rough, kind of crude yet still delicate in its pattern
The piece is in very good shape with some enamel is missing in spots
In other words, it doesn't look like it was made recently and does look like it was uses for what it was meant to be used for.
How does it look to you? A Newer piece? I was able to rule out the 18c on my own through research ;-)

Hi, this is late 19th/early 20th c porcelain enameled serving bowls. Designed specifically for the export market. You mentioned they were heavy which is a good indicated of early 20thc and is indicative of ceramics leaving china at this time. The finish is a little clumsy again indicating later dating. Would be great to see the base. I love Chinese ceramics and love these, and whilst they are not going to make you a wealthy man they are collectable here and in china.

Is this the one with the red CHINA stamp on the back? I believe it's Republic period (1912-1949) - likely to be later rather than earlier; 1940s.

Yes, the large one weighs over 4 lbs
I'm not sure how you wanted to see the base. The second photo was shot head on so I did a few more.

Thanks so much They are beautiful pieces. I got a set of three, the large on and two 7" dishes. There is a pink one with a few crack which I guess diminishes the value so I'll keep it for myself.

Yes there are collectors, but the loss of enamel is a problem and will reduce the price. And a lot of collectors are currently picking them up cheap from thrift stores. Depends on whether you have the storage space and how long you want to wait before getting rid of them.

There are some very pretty Republic period pieces out there. Worth collecting them if they are in perfect condition and you can get them cheaply enough. Smaller and damaged items will only ever be cheap entry level collectables for first time buyers.

Thanks Naomi. They are about as damaged as you see them. I said I have a pink on with cracks and Ill keep that for myself...no point trying to sell heavily damaged items.
The other pieces have some loss of enamel as seen in the pictures, other than that, they are in decent collectible shape.
Can you guide me to some of the better research books to learn more about Chinese and Japanese Pottery?
Gotheborg is useful but even his sight is too iffy and he admits it is.

I've found them full of useful information and there are Chinese and Japanese nationals on there who can translate the marks.

Hi Lorrgeno, there are not really many books that help, I will list a couple for you that I do reference but the best way to learn and understand chinese ceramics is handling and observing, going to specialist auctions, visiting museums like the v&a who have the most amazing department. Understanding Asian ceramics is a life time pursuit! dukes of Dorchester have a fantastic Asian arts auction 2/3 times a year, their website has a fantastic back catalogue as a reference guide.

Thank you, Naomi and eshearm. You have both been extremely helpful. Unfortunately there aren't many outlets here for specialty auctions or museums in this area...although we do have an outrageous Tiffany museum...go figure. I will check out Facebook pages and check out the books you've suggested.

Hi NaomiM, I went over to the Facebook groups you recommended and thank you BTW for sending me there. nice group and very helpful.
The general consensus from Peter Cooms was they were early 20c pieces.
