With that base, and Cardew style of decoration I'm Pretty sure it's one of the Abuja potters

Thanks Naomi. Yes the base is certainly similar to Ed's mug.

A friend of a friend, who likes Abuja, suggested it could be the AA glaze.
they used.
Looking through G Images, the coiled effect on the neck, and the pooled glaze
underneath seem to be common features on Ladi Kwali pieces, though I know
this isn't one of them.

I've added Zippy's Abuja pot to the Abuja thread. It's the same mark as yours.

Not sure Naomi, same letters, but Zippy's H and A are separate, these are joined.

I'm off to see Michael OBrien tomorrow and will take images of this and Zippy's pot and see if he has any opinion.

Showed Michael OBrien images of this vase and the mark and he was certain that it was not made at Abuja or any where else in Nigeria. He admits that it shows aspects of Michael Cardew's way of working but felt that the form and decoration were rather stilted. He had doubts as to whether the potter had actually worked with Cardew because of that, suggesting that he/she might just be copying aspects of Cardew's pottery that they had seen in some finished pots.

I've put a question mark on, but not deleted Abuja because it makes it easier to find this thread again.
