Drawn a blank with this one. Any ideas? Middle Eastern? European?

Hi Naomi
It is a little bit of a mystery. That painting style is very Moroccan and the inclusion of the fleur-de-lis design would normally point to a French connection (as Morocco has). But its on white clay and nearly all the Moroccan made vases I have seen are on red clay. But fleur-de-lis is also heavily connected with Florence and I have seen this naïve style of painting on Cantagalli type pottery from the start of the 20th century (normally on red lustres to be honest). That type of pottery was also on white clay as this appears to be. So my vote is for it to be Italian from that period and made near Florence.
Here is a link to a Cantagalli red lustre pin tray so you can see the similarity in painting styles.

Cheers. I considered Florence too but haven't found anything similar. They tend to like their oak leaf and lion motif
