Brilliant! Thanks. Is it a Clappison design?

There are some designs that are attributed to John but there were also other designers
Most designs were a committee decsion to make so the intial design could be from any of the designers
JC was there from 1958 to 1972 in his first stint doing tableware so it could well be but who knows

Someone else might know the designer but they are clased as multicouloured slip ware vases (4 in the series) 1961
Produced for a very short time only and quite hard to find nowadays

John was responsible for several of the most memorable 20th Century ceramic designs, he will be sadly missed

Its the homestead range 1965 and it is a vinegar bottle The scarcer one is the light blue flames on a dark blue background

They were made by painting hot liquid wax in the shape of the flames onto a once fired pot Once cool it was sprayed with a brown oxide glaze and fired again This left the wax areas, the flames, unglazed once the wax had melted. It was then sprayed with the secondary honey glaze which when glost fired the honey glaze adhered to the unglazed areas but not the primary glaze The interior glaze was done at this time as well

I dont know the designer sorry
The Homestead range was
301 eggcup
302 salt & pepper
303 mustard pot lidded
305 vinegar bottle
306 sugar bowl
307 preserve pot lidded
308 cream jug
309 rectangular butter dish lidded
310 cheese dish and lid

there was no 304 in this range and to confuse the issue more all the numbers have been used in other earlier ranges

Little basalt black polar bear, designed by Marion Campbell for Hornsea and produced 1956/1957
A little over 3" tall. Unmarked.

I've seen some examples referred to as seals, but this one definitely has paws with pads, so it's a polar bear.

I think that since soapstone polar bears can be white, grey, green, black that maybe the artist felt some 'license' in doing a black one.
