Ellgreave Pottery Co. (Burslem) including Lottie Rhead Ware.
I need a bit of help please placing this in 'history' of Burslem, it's so convoluted. I read Ellgreave opened in 1921 until 1881? I can't find any other 'white' ware on my searching to place this jug anywhere in that time scale. I'm aware it's probably more 20's-30's as I found the same shape but with a pattern called Lottie Rhead Ware, I presume after Charlotte Rhead who took over artist designs in 1923 but does anyone know anything about this jug??..an old style she spruced up with more desirable decoration??? oh I don't really know what I'm going on about now!

There is an F stamped faintly in the base if anyone knows of the makers marks

Goddens is a little vague on Ellgreave, this mark is not shown, but I would
suspect late 40s, (being undecorated), or early 50s. The F will be the throwers park.
Certain I Id'd a jug, for maybe for Naomi, which was Ellgreave Lottie Rhead, but
again the thread has disappeared.

The B of the mark is likely to be a "group letter" that was used from 1942 until 1947 due to war time controls of production of wares in different categories. A, B and C were initially incorporated into factory marks but from 1945 BY, CY and CZ were also used.

Ellgreave.
An Ellgreave Midas-shape two-handled vase, circa 1930s. I've had a couple of Ellgreave vases from this period, plus a large piggy bank, but this is the only piece I still own.
Although the pots themselves tend to be nicely shaped they do suffer from the glaze flaking. I've no idea why, but I'd guess that either they used a glaze that didn't adhere well to the quite gritty, chalky white clay, or that the glaze itself was prone to excessive shrinkage as it dried out over the years. The decoration is all hand-painted.
It does have one claim to fame, though. In Eastenders, Dot Cotton has an Ellgreave vase on a shelf in her kitchen.
