Apple green Japanese teaset - Kiyomizu-yaki Senshun

Mark = 清水焼 洗春 - Kiyomizu-yaki Senshun

This type of pottery is made in Kyoto and the -yaki part of this and any mark is the Japanese for ware (i.e. pottery).

The Kiyomizu (Pure Water) Temple in Kyoto attracted potteries to set up outside its grounds hence the name but over the years the potteries have spread. The name these days might be used by potteries in Kyoto that are some way from the gates of the temple.

There is not a specific style but it is often painted and made of porcelain, as this teaset is.

Much of the wares are made for export and their original purpose, the tourist trade.
