Jeff Oestreich, Leach St Ives, and Minnesota, USA

I know this is Leach pottery, does anyone recognise the makers mark?

I can't make the mark out but if it's an S then maybe John Singleman is a possibility , apparently a student of leach for a short time and this piece does look kinda studenty

Like Ed the mark is difficult to make out but could it be CD?

Could it be Judy Gardner, who was there in the early 50s?

Yes, I think that was his early mark when he was in the UK at Leach Pottery, and this is his US mark. He also has a JO underlined in a triangle. But I'll double check

Hmmm nothing quite matches this mark.

Mark looks full of glaze. Might be why it looks different

Thing is it's in a circle. His marks seem to be in a rectangle.

His marks are in circles, triangles, rectangles and even a hexagon :) He's been potting for a long time.

He's at the Leach Pottery, St Ives until the 16th Oct

Does anyone know who's cypher this is?

Possibly Judy Gardiner but I think it's still a mystery. Worth asking Leach Pottery as I think they are collecting past marks

I think this is Jeff Oestreich, an American who apparently was an apprentice at the Leach pottery, 1969-1971.

Edited to say: Confirmed by Jeff Oestreich that this is his early mark from his time as an apprentice at St Ives

I sent the images to the Leach Museum and they said that they can't ID this mark.

This is what a very helpful Joanna said.

"There have been a huge number of potters at the Leach Pottery over the years and unfortunately that stamp is not one I know and nor is it in a book of potters marks that we have"
