I'm afraid I can't read it, but if anyone can work out the first letter then there's a directory of Cornish artists here -

Yeah, I have had a look at that, I also have the book of artists in Newlyn & West Cornwall, but I just cant pin it down, it's so unclear. It wasn't visible in the frame and I initially thought T H Victor, till I got it out. It's actually better than a Victor looking at it anyway but such an oft painted scene!

I know you won't like it but it looks very much like tourist Hong Kong paintings that I have seen. That style of heavy highlights in black white probably gouache. The Chinese make a fortune each year selling much higher quality 'copies' of all sorts of paintings in volume.

Happy for you to prove me wrong but I don't think so.

Hope not ! But im not saying your wrong. the only thing going against that is it was in an old frame and the mounting tape to affix to mount was old and dusty as it came off

They easily go back as far as the 70s probably further, where there are tourists there are things to sell them
Re: ID of Signature on Newlyn Watercolour ?
Tbh, the same thought occurred to me as the technique is very 'spikey' with vertical lines that are more common on Chinese paintings

.....but I think the Hong Kong painters preferred generic scenes rather than specific named locations.

Re: ID of Signature on Newlyn Watercolour ?
You have to take pictures in context of course.
An idyllic Victorian/ Edwardian scene with a few small sail boats in a small harbour.
Which is entirely untrue. If this is supposed to be a picture of its time, then a 'Newlyn' harbour would have been a mass of fishing boats and figures. In the Victorian era Newlyn was a hugely busy fishing port.
Moreover, that is harbour is very small. Not much more than a cove. Newlyn harbour was big, busy, and commercial.
No figures. Idyllic scene. A generic furniture painting out of someone's imagination. Could be Chinese, but there a lot of other people doing this type of thing as well.

you guys have all missed the obvious clue
It was painted 14th of January this year
You really need to pay more attention if you want to be serious collectors!
