Well made ovoid vase with handle ... MONIKA MAETZEL

Picked this up in a French bootsale.

It appears to be very well made. Correct me please if I am wrong but this feels like a piece of stoneware.

I do not know what type of glazing this is other than it is beautiful ...

It stands 3.25"/8cm high by a diameter of  3.75"/9cm

I want to say that this is European ... even Scandinavian (I can dream!) ... but in truth I do not have that kind of confidence.

The mark underneath is either a chervon above two Ws plus a dot to the left ... or the other way up could make it twoMs and a V plus dot to the right. Or something completely different.

Either way can anyone shed light on this fine ceramic?

I believe it’s by Monika Maetzel, Hamburg. I came across a coffee set with a similar mark.

Interesting. I’m not finding anything by Brigit Best, but I am finding a number of pieces on German eBay and Amazon with your ‘Brigit’ mark which are attributed to Monika.

Did she study under Monika? It’s possibly why both marks are on one of the pots

I am not sure she was mentored by Maetzel, but on Bests site she is qouted as saying (this is a google translation):
