Zip - those eye surround shapes are very distinctive and follow on from the white clay originals from the late 50's Here are two white clay versions that are a little earlier than yours. I have owls coming out of my ears ATM and could put my hands on a few more. The big dusty one is probably about the same time as yours if it's groggy clay? Then sixties ENGLAND. They start sharp and clear and after they have made 30,000 they then to be all over the shop.

If you want to confirm they are old use a alternative method based on the Sherlock Holmes 'dust' test, but which uses a smartphone ... you can't fake dead wasps! Two would be from the fifties, one for the sixties and probably only a fly or two from the 70's... Big Laughter

Only just seen this.

So it was you that out bid me.
I was watching a load of stuff at that auction and everything went just above what I wanted to pay (having to add postage!).

NP Zip. Celtic Thistle is late 70's and one I rate as some of the other patterns are a bit slap-dash by then. There seems to be a lot more time taken on the Thistle items, they are very consistent as if always decorated by the same person. That would be my guess.

Bulbous vase with painted decoration, nicely turned base, Totally unmarked, the decoration looks familiar to me but just can't place it.

That's nice! -  briglin - Briglin Pottery - Page 5 896643  briglin - Briglin Pottery - Page 5 896643 Only thing I don't like is the thin white ground burning through brown - I prefer it whiter. I think the thin brown white ground is later so 70's.

Lovely thing - not common at all.

These two are marked ENGLND = 60's

briglin - Briglin Pottery - Page 5 Empty Large Bowl Green Glaze Inside. Stamped Briglin?

Post by stardust* August 7th 2015, 6:35 pm

I have this large bowl 30cm across the rim, and 13cm tall. It's brown matt (salt?) glaze on the outside and a lovely green gloss glaze inside.
It has 2 stamps, both of which I have taken to be Briglin, however the Briglin pottery I see regularly is very different. I was wondering, am I right in interpreting this mark as Briglin?

Excellent All correct - That groggy clay was mostly sixties - probably early sixties and although not marked as such. I would think it was ENGLAND period. 300mm is a good size, thanks for letting us see it.

A nice double gourd vase from my collection, 6.5 in high.
22CS has seen a pic, but not of the base. I'm assuming,
and hoping, it's by Eileen Lewenstein. What do you think?

Yes nice set of marks DD. That made in England is an early one, that I know. Eileen left in 58. I've not seen a red clay piece by her marked Brigin before ..need to check. The assumption would be it's later 50s. rather than early. Most of the early stuff is white clay. Yes certainly EL piece. Very interesting!

So my guess is 55-58 ishy.
