Re: Briglin Pottery
I've spoken to her. That valuation is not correct. I shared with her all the records of sales I have. Info they gave out was not 100%
Re: Briglin Pottery
There's auction valuation, retail valuation, and insurance valuation. I'm guessing they gave a retail or insurance valuation

Re: Briglin Pottery
Well AR gives auction values but they looked like posh Piccadilly art gallery prices when you compare them to auction prices going back quite a few years. One sold recently with a low number but went for something like £500 all in but had a hairline that put me off. That does not make x5 go for 8-10k and I've seen higher numbers for the PR one than they say were made. I sold one by advertising it on my website for a very nice woman who got a good value for it in a cash deal - must be five or six years ago now.
Re: Briglin Pottery
They tend to double or triple the figure if it's a pair or a set. There was a Crowan teaset that sold for a ridiculous amount recently at Partridges, presumably because of the time and effort it would take to get the items individually

Re: Briglin Pottery
I think that a lot of markets for pottery have shifted recently. Some up some down. Like an earthquake the land we were used to moved overnight. All the Hornsea Aphrodite vases have just gone *poof* where there used to be a few on ebay. Just watched a little GS miniature sell for nearly £50 on EB. All a bit odd. I doubt prices will go higher but they might fall back. Dunno perhaps there is a new paradigm
Re: Briglin Pottery
I’ve started spending £20-30 on items off eBay when previously I’d have stuck to £10-15. Not sure if it’s simply because the items are nice or it’s post-Lockdown madness

Re: Briglin Pottery
There were three of these figures sold at Wooley and Wallis in March 2018.
The Gielgud was £4,800, the Robeson £1800, and the Olivier £1300. So given there were 5 of them, perhaps the valuation was not too off.

Re: Briglin Pottery
Complete outliers. The others went for 500, 450, 350 and 600 you failed to mention them - do you have other prices?
Re: Briglin Pottery
Checking on it, the date of the Antiques Roadshow episode was 2015. So you are right, no evidence before then to base their valuation on anything like that. Curious, hpw they made that decision. The valuations on the the programme itself have obviously had a lot of research behind them before they appear on screen.
Equally Naomi is right. They have a whole multitude of 'valuations'. The mythical one based on the high end Bond St shop - which probably no longer exists on a site like that- is virtually anything they like to say!

Re: Briglin Pottery
Maybe because the fins are easily chipped.
I thought it was a Clive Brooker piece when I first spotted it.
