Re: Rye Pottery and other Potteries of Rye
The mark is one specifically used by Tarquin Cole (son of Walter Cole) in 1978. The S is unusual as Rye decorators marks were generally only used in the immediate post-war years. The main collector's interest is in the 50's and 60's work with their specific decoration.

Re: Rye Pottery and other Potteries of Rye
Maybe a butter dish. More common abroad, in places like Canada but they are ‘upside down’

Re: Rye Pottery and other Potteries of Rye
Could be looks like table service device of some kind but the receptacle is about 5 cm wide and 2 cm deep with the lid cover being about 3.5 - 4 cm high so you couldn't get an egg in the holder and the lid on. A candle maybe I suppose but the inside is rounded and it would take too much time to snuff out - would have to be more of a pebble style candle.
I'm still thinking some food stuff but more along the lines of fish eggs or something rare/expensive than butter. If it was for a condiment why the lid for such a small amount of say butter/mustard/salt or the like.

Is it marked up inside the pot?

Yes, stamped twice internally. Difficult to photograph in focus but I’ve posted one of the stamps above

Oh, I was wondering where the mark actually was, quite an unusual place to mark anyway!

Does anyone know what this model is?
Hi everyone
I got this piece in a job lot with some other ceramic I wanted. Does anyone know who the figure is supposed to be, I thought it was Mrs Tiggywinkle but I havent found one that looks like this one so I think it must be another character. If anyone has seen it before and could let me know, that would be great! Thank you!

Re: Rye Pottery and other Potteries of Rye
Very nice. Unless it’s another character from Toad of Toad Hall, I think it’s probably meant to be Mrs Tiggywinkle but not too close a copy to avoid copyright issues if he didn’t have permission from Beatrix Potter’s estate to make it.

Having spoken to David's widow and son in the past, I don't think seeking permission was one of David's strong points, so I would agree with Naomi. They do look a similar vintage to the Toad of Toad Hall characters.
