Don't believe all you see on ebay. He was kind enough to accept an offer.

Yeh, I'd not seen nor heard of them before. But t-babes has seen 1 other, whilst having this one. So there's at least 1 other around. But I can't believe such a cute thing wasn't made in larger numbers. So there must be others around ??
There looks to be a finger nail mark at the top of the inside - so I guess they were decorated sitting on someones finger ?
From the glaze, I'd say it clearly a Mousehole piece.

Well, that's certainly where the decorator's finger went. Laughter

it is usually described as part of the folk range but I have never known what the design is.
Some sort of Celtic symbol perhaps?

celtic pottery - Celtic pottery (Newlyn & Mousehole) - Page 20 Empty Unmarked Dish, Celtic Newlyn

Post by Grumpy Grandad April 24th 2021, 5:37 pm

This dish looks to have a cockerel decorated in the Celtic style, but is unmarked. There is what may be the remains of the adhesive from a label underneath (not me - I never remove identifying labels).
So, is this Celtic or just 'in the style of'?

Another piece i'd love to ID.  No obvious marking but I wonder if the handle is a clue?

Might this be Celtic Pottery?

Yes, Celtic Newlyn Pottery. Unusual decoration but the black round the handle is typical of their pottery

An unusual version of the trawler design, a very good example

Thanks Dan. Is it an early design? .. I'm not seeing many on line and the shape seems more curved than most of the mugs?

I would guess it's either late Mousehole or early Newlyn but probably the latter
