Norman Taylor, Vivian and Mike Edwards, Bolingey Perranporth (CORNWALL)
Bolingey Pottery was situated just ouside Perranporth in Cornwall, started in the 1950s by Norman Taylor, a travelling salesman from Coventry. Norman set the pottery up after seeing pots thrown at Lakes Pottery in Truro. By the mid 60's the pottery was well established and he was joined by the very skilled Michael (Mike) Edwards from Lakes. Norman died in Cyprus in 1983 and the pottery carried on for a while with his son Vivian and Mike Edwards, but eventually closing in the 80's (read Antique Explorer July issue for a great article and pics). 2008, becoming very collectable.

Impressed ME Mike Edwards , look out for signed pieces incised NT Norman Taylor and Impressed ME mike edwards , these command higher prices , all pieces are signed bolingey perranporth and underlined , but the signed ones are the most desirable

Rare Norman Taylor Pottery Jug
[img][/img]
Bolingey Pottery
Bolingey is a small village between Perranporth and Penwortha Combe on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall.
In the early 1960s Norman Taylor, a travelling salesman from Coventry, moved to Perranporth and learned how to pot at evening classes. He started the pottery at Bolingey and operated it with the help of his family. Mike Edwards who had previously potted with Lake's at Truro, started helping Norman in the evenings, and was taken on full-time in 1965.
Norman Taylors work is hard to come by and commands good prices. The above jug is from my collection, a rare and a good sample of his work. Below are some Norman Taylor Marks.
Enjoy
Ernest

Norman Taylor Bolingey Pottery
Recently aquired this vase by Norman Taylor. My question here is, did the Bolingey Pottery take on students. The reason why I'm asking is about the initials JB and possibly 1958 the year date it was made or pattern number. I know Norman set up the pottery in the late 50s, but the pottery did'nt realy take off until in the early 60s.
Very interesting piece and I never seen this before on Bolingey pots.

A commission, maybe?
I expect he had assistants, but they don't usually sign pieces.

Thanks for reply NaomiM. Would be nice to know more about these details. I know the Bolingey pottery very well, and as I said never seen this before on there wares. I just wonder if they did have some students for a short period. Will contact Mike Edwards and see if he can throw some light on this.
Regards
