Post by RVsaid December 5th 2013, 9:08 am

Hi

A little 5 inches across and 3.25 inches tall bowl. The decoration is saying Aldermaston to me however it is not signed to base. Base has a raised rim with a swirl inside.

Could anyone indentify the maker/artist please.

Yes it's by one of the Aldermaston potters, although, without a mark it's difficult to say by who, or if it was made before or after Aldermaston closed.
Possibly Ursula Waechter or Laurence McGowan

Edgar Campden cereal bowl. Not sure what all the other marks are around the AC monogram, or why he'd bother on what is otherwise a very ordinary little bowl.

ALDERMASTON MARKS
Hi all, couldn't help noticing the aldermaston marks page from the book is shown twice. I don't have the
book, but I wondered if there was actually another page, but page one was posted twice by mistake?

My own research (done before the book came out) revealed many more potters who worked there, so here
is the list of the ones I have that are not shown.

BASHALL Louise 1989-92 - now based in New Zealand, PotsbyLou

BELLMONT Julian 1980-

BENNET Catherine 1969-71

BENT Gill 1978-82

COLERIDGE Harriet 1984-86

DAVIES Sam 1987-91

DAVIS Charlotte

HARKNESS Juliet 1969-72

HAMID Mohamed 1983-86

HAZELDEN Andrew 1984-93

McDONNELL Myra 1992-

NERGER Silke 1991-

O'CONNOR Jane (nee FOLLETT) 1978-80

I think it was meant for Pork dripping (as opposed to Beef dripping)

aldermaston - Alan Caiger-Smith and apprentices, Aldermaston Pottery - Page 2 Empty Jane O’Connor

Post by NaomiM June 12th 2014, 10:31 pm

Jane O'Connor  ( not Edgar Campden )

The circular part of the mark is in 2 separate arcs which was a characteristic of Janes'.  Also I note the design is floral, which was a theme that Jane pursued when she did her own stuff at Aldermaston.

She would have made it in 1979 or very early in 1980.  (not 1978, when she started, as she was probably not let loose on such pieces until she got into the swing of things)

The decoration looks right, but I can't seem to narrow down the mark.

Well any info is always useful. I've amended my alphabetical list now, (60 assistants!).

It can be downloaded from here (4Kb RTF file) if anyone would like a copy.

Two finds, a lustre David Tipler (61-75) and a dated 1960 ACS tall goblet in pastel colours. I've worked out how to colour match photos in Photoshop - it takes time but it's worth the effort.
