No, the delay was on our part. I was tidying up all the older Poole posts, and
noticed that strangely nobody had ever replied to this one!

I was wondering if it is a 'second' as it has a flaw in the interior (see pic) but having a signature I was interested to know.  Any help gratefully received.

I can see this pattern online referred to as Poole Pottery Freeform vase with pattern number PS designed by Ann Read, daughter of Alfred Read. The PS pattern is also referred to as Bamboo.
This may be Shape - 302
Date - 1956 / 1957
This may be correct. Check out what comes up.

poole - Poole Pottery up to 1959 & Traditional - Page 11 Empty Poole Pottery pattern ON

Post by belindagoss June 9th 2024, 1:14 pm

I picked up this Poole pottery jam pot yesterday and have tried finding other pieces in the pattern ON but no luck. I did find one piece on eBay that had a very similar yellow bird (had different wing design) but it was with the blue cockerel pattern name LE. Does anyone else have a piece with this pattern please? Or has anyone come across this pattern before?

Thank you for your response, yes it’s dated between 1952-55 and yes it has Pat Summers artist mark, but it’s the pattern that I am trying to find more information on. I can’t find another piece on the internet that is marked ON for the pattern, Im looking for anyone who has another piece in the same pattern as this or any information regarding this pattern

In the early 50's most of the patterns from the art deco period were discontinued but before they standardised on the 3 main patterns of LE, BN and CS they did use a no. of other patterns - TV for example - but I don't think I have ever seen ON before. The letter 'e' means 'elaborate' i.e. the design covered the whole surface of the pot. Poole produced 100's of different patterns so there will always be unusual ones popping up. With std traditional ranges being out of fashion at the moment I do not think it makes your piece any more valuable.

Thank you so much for your reply I really appreciate the information. I don’t mind too much about whether it was valuable or not I was just intrigued by the pattern number as I hadn’t seen one before. It gives me something to look out for and if it’s rare then it will stop me buying too many pieces
