Oldrich Asenbryl, Sarn Pottery

Bought it few weeks ago, well made pottery, very thin and light but after hours of research still don’t know who made it.  

The decoration is similar to an early Oldrich Asenbryl , Sarn Pottery, c.1970. I think this is an OA mark, before they got a stamp. Or maybe the clay was simply too dry to take a stamp.

A very low wide based pot, does this shape have a name by the way? Approx 8.5 inches across the base not including spout and 3.25 inches high including lid.

I thought the impressed mark was an O between two lines however it extends up under the glaze and looks like an A with the O underneath. The O shape could also extend up into the glaze almost like a classic number 6.

Cool, you know how it is, until I photographed the mark I just saw an O within lines. The moment I caught the A I found the potter. Cheers though, shame she's got two dings but wow what a shape..

that's a coincidence! Yesterday I decided to visit Ceske Budejovice in the former Czechoslovakia which is where Oldrich Asenbryl was born

This vase looks to be hand thrown and squashed,
with a splodge type floral decoration.
Square impressed seal/ mark which could be  T H O or any number of possible letters.
No luck so far to iD

Any thoughts on possible maker appreciated.

I seem to remenber he is Czech.

Strange, his stuff is usually more colouful than your example.

This stoneware pot is unmarked but is similar to a piece on page 3 of the Colin Kelham thread in "Studio Pottery". Image of that piece here:

Here's mine, which I think bears more than a passing resemblance. I think it's probably 'in the style of' rather than by Kelham, but I thought it was worth asking the question.







Forgive the dull colouring. Pictures were taken in the loft with crap lighting. It'z rather brighter in the flesh.

I don't think its Colin Kellam. They were quite a professional operation, and they had a fairly specific glaze palette which makes most of their work quite identifiable.

………… adding to what "philpot" has written, I have never seen any pots that shape from there and the foot doesn't look right.
