Cmielow (Poland)
I collect Cmielow animals, tableware, decorative pieces. Would love to share info with others collecting this make.
This is a set I bought from Germany.

Re: Cmielow (Poland)
Recent purchase.
I don't have any idea about the marks to the base other than they will mean shape and decoration ...
Re: Cmielow (Poland)
I love how the price 40 Zlotys, is permanently marked on the base. Very communist.

Some Cmielow figurines
Hi,
please find some of my stuff. Not only from Cmielow, but also from other Cmielow-like Polish factories from the 60's (like Chodziez or Bogucice).
Photos made by Norbert Piwowarczyk for a recent publication.

Cmielow vase
dantheman wrote:I love the red vase in the foreground of the last pic, could you tell us about it please?
Hi,
it's called Bozena and this piece comes from Cmielow factory. I've got it back from U.S., so apparently it's been exported in the 60's. Unfortunately I'm not sure who designed it.

Henryk Jedrasiak Gnu (Bull) 1958 for Cmielow
I've had this bull for about 20 years but don't really known anything about it. It looks Italian to me.
Can anyone tell me which factory made it and what the date of it might be?
It stands around 12cm tall - nearly 5 inches - and is slip-cast.
The second photo shows the underside and a number written into the glaze: C-523 1081

I have just done some digging around on the wonderful web and reckon it could be made by a Polish company called Cmielow.
Are there any Cmielow experts here?

Re: Cmielow (Poland)
I'm no expert but it doesn't look like any Cmielow I have seen before
Do you know if it's porcelain?

It's a Gnu designed by Henryk Jedrasiak in 1958 for Cmielow.

Re: Cmielow (Poland)
I knew gnu someone here would know what it is. Many thanks for the details.
It looks like a bull to me - would never have guessed it's a gnu.
The company - now called AS Cmielow - is still knocking these out.
Would this orig' be worth much more than a new one?

Re: Cmielow (Poland)
Honestly haven't got a clue, but I should imagine like most things, the original is always worth more than the copy.

This is not a bull, but a gnu. It has the number C-523 1081 written on the underside.

Re: Cmielow (Poland)
This is the set to look out for! Mine has some damage, and missing items, but the teapot
is perfect, and it has it's little lid, which drops off, so they are almost always missing.
I have seen a slightly different shape with a long thin lid on the top instead.
There are colour and decoration variations, this is maroon/wavy lines.
There is a dots pattern, and I have seen red, green and purple that I can remember.

black ceramic bull - Cmielow Poland
I'd appreciate any thoughts on this black glossy glazed bull, 11cm high to his shoulders. He looks like a porcelain body and the incised script underneath looks like Italian lettering to me. many thanks, Jim

I recently picked up a cat which looks exactly like a Cmielow sitting cat but has a wider hole at the base and is only marked 85 .Is this Cmielow or somekind of copy.I did wonder if it was for export? Many thanks

Re: Cmielow (Poland)
Cmielow did reissue lots of the models in the 1980s/90s, but we would need a picture.
