Re: The Leach Pottery. St Ives
Just had word from Joanna Wason about the large lidded pot above , she told me she hasn't seen anything like it before , she worked with Janet for the last 9 yrs and told me this must have been made in the early 80's or even before she hasn't seen these handles on an upright piece before , she said it's stoneware from John Dobles pit St Agnes which she wedge iron into, the glaze is stone & ash , if anybody can find a similar piece that would be great , Ta Ed

Oh I'm not sure Denby, I saw Eds coffee mug (the first post on this thread) and Studio said they came in 3 colourways. Mine looks the same shape so is probably right.

"Your my wife now" that guy was really scary.
Loved the shopkeepers.
It's only about 15 miles away where they filmed it.

Re: The Leach Pottery. St Ives
Hello,
please does anyone know if there is a resource/list of the stamps the individual potters used at the leach? I'm asking because I have a pot marked with the leach stamp and L: any ideas?
Thank you

studio-pots wrote:This mug was part of the Standard Ware range that was produced at the Leach Pottery up until Bernard Leach's death in 1979. In an illustrated catalogue of Leach Standard Ware that I possess from 1975 this was one of three mugs produced at the time and was called a "Coffee Mug" with a retail price of 90p. They were available in 3 different glazes referred to as A, B and C. A - Black to rust tenmoku. B - Mottled grey brown, C- Pale celadon green (as above).
The Standard Ware range was made by the students and apprentices so cannot be attributed to any individual potter. However, they were certainly never thrown by Bernard.

Yes that was me, sorry if it was wrong and I can move it back. Sounded more like a question?

Re: The Leach Pottery. St Ives
The England mark is found on some but not all of the Standard Ware range. My guess would be that there would be no need for the mark if the wares were sold from the Leach Pottery but if supplied to retail outlets (and some outside of the UK) then the England mark would be used.

Re: The Leach Pottery. St Ives
Standard ware lidded casserole pot with handle. Possibly no.18 in the catalogue.
