Assuming it’s the size of an egg cup I think it’s just an egg cup. William Marshall used the same glaze combination on his Leach pots

In the 1975 catalogue the eggcups were 1.75 in x 1.25 in. I have a brush pot which is 2.5 x 2ins. I think you are probably right. It is an egg cup.
But its the glaze and decoration that interested me. I have two small signed Bill Marshall St Ives pieces and the decoration and glaze looks exactly like this one.

Studio-Pots put up this mark and a vaguely similar looking piece on page 5 of this thread'
https://www.20thcenturyforum.com/t9954p100-leach-pottery-st-ives
He had shown it to Bill Marshall who could not identify it. I have seen John Reeve's speific mark on a St Ives piece, and I would not say it looked like this one.

I dont think it’s SP’s unidentified A mark. That has a bend in the cross bar of the A

Interestingly there was a St Ives bowl with Colin Pearson's ciecle mark on it at Auctioneers Kingham and Orme in Evesham on Saturday 5 December. Hammer price of £80. So he musy have been at Leach St Ives at some time, but there is nothing in the books about it.

I checked out the bowl and, although it might have been by him, I wouldn't be convinced by what the auction house has said, as it is all a little vague.

Likewise I thinks it a good policy, from years of experience, to never believe anything any auction house says to help to sell a piece, without you being able to verify it through what you know or what you can find out elsewhere.

The mark on the piece.

That looks pRetty much spot on for Colin Pearson's older work.

I accept that the mark looks like Colin's but not for work from 1954, which is the date given by the auction house. At that time Colin was either still at Winchcombe making earthenware, at Doulton in Lambeth before going to Aylesford to produce earthenware at the Priory where is mark was not like this.

There is still a lot to find out about St Ives and its marks. Even after all these years, intriguing. If the mark is not Colin Pearson's, who is it?

I have come across a number of Leach Pottery items with personal marks that I have not been able to identify. I imagine at the time it wasn't given much consideration and if someone started to attempt it now then it would be too late.

So I have absolutely no idea, who made the bowl and I am not even ruling out Colin Pearson. However, I have seen nothing to indicate that he made a single pot there. If there was some evidence that Colin went to the Leach Pottery in the 1960s to help him get used to throwing stoneware rather than earthenware that he had used until then, I would think that the bowl in question was his.

However, with the vague information that we have, I would not buy it believing it was by Colin or sell it with the suggestion that Colin made it.

Certainly looks like Pearson’s mark with the St Ives mark. The style looks very Aylesford-like. If I hadn’t seen the marks my first guess would have been Aylesford Pottery. I wonder if Pearson and David Leach developed the Aylesford range at St Ives?

So here is another one then.
https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/358317714110003252/

Recently sold on Ebay as Geoffrey Whiting with Leach St Ives interest.Went for £75. I was somewhat dubious about the attribution itself. But the seller said he had bought it from a trusted auction house which had said it was Geoffrey Whiting. Weeeelllll Yes, we've been there before! Laughter
But anyway. Who is it?

David and Colin did that at the Priory and in the beginning it was earthenware, just as David was using at Lowerdown. By the stoneware days, David was keeping away from St. Ives and Janet! Remember both David and Michael Leach left the Leach Pottery when Janet came on the scene in 1955. Therefore the logic is that if Colin would have needed to go anywhere to practise throwing stoneware in the 1960s it would have been Lowerdown or almost anywhere other than St. Ives.

The 'Leach Family Tree' from from Mike's pots - formerly Ceramike- is a fascinating and surprisingly long one. Well worth looking at.

Standard Ware teapots are relatively rare in the range. Here are two each different. The cane handle seemed standard. In the 1975 standard ware price list similar teapots were £6.50. Compare this to a present day similar style 2 pint Winchcombe teapot which is £85.bedding - The Leach Pottery. St Ives - Page 15 Img_0159bedding - The Leach Pottery. A rare chess set from St Ives. A stoneware with a chequered design in matt manganese and mushroom glaze. The porcelain pieces covered in manganese and mushroom glaze. St Ives seal to tile. 27.5 cms wide.
This came with a photo of the chess set authenticated by David Leach. Apparently it was given to the owner by Bernard Leach.

Pick up this lovely mug and it's screaming Leach standard ware. The mark has a line through the S but not a very clear though, ENGLAND stamped under mark, can anyone second this. It's came with another when bought yesterday. I have added a better close up of the mark for the cup below.
