Re: Holkham Pottery
Hello
Interesting to compare Hercules's piece with he one here. It seems clear to me that my piece is much inferior in its accomplishment; less sharp and the shape itself seems much the less pleasing. I would take a guess that mine is the earlier of the two and seems to be trying out a design which reaches its potential in Mr Brabazon's beautiful, simple example.
I know little of these things but that is the opinion of this layman. Any comments would be very welcome

Re: Holkham Pottery
Hi everyone, i'm new to all this so i hope i do it right!
I have a nice tankard,it has a very faint impressed holkham and england stamp on the bottom. Hopefully, if i can upload my photos you will se the decoration, but if not i'll try to describe it to you. Its 6" high, tapering to the top, and has various figures on it with a little saying below each one, eg a peasant type lad with the words - buy a rabbit, buy a rabbit, and a 'madam' holding a fan saying come with me sir!!! plus a couple more. Along the top edge is a row of goblets, drinking vessels, pots etc in mono tone.
Has anyone any idea of an age or any history of the design etc, i would love to know.
Thank you.
ps- i tried to load the images but all i got was a box full of sample pics and adverts and terms and conditions. oh well..........

Re: Holkham Pottery
Hi I'm Keith Corrigan's grandaughter. Keith Corrigan set up Holkham Pottery in 1951 with Lady Leicester. I have a lot of information on the pottery, family knowledge from my Mother and her brothers and letters, glazing recipes, patterns/designs, newspaper cuttings etc. So if we can help in any way we would be glad to. Also if anyone has any Holkham pottery with my Grandfather's initials on the bottom I would be most interested to see it. 'KGC' or 'KC'.
I have never used a forum before so apologies if I don't do it right!

I.D This Little Holkham Dish Please.
Hi, I bought this delightful little Holkham dish from my local charity shop for £2.99 and wondered if anyone could please tell me a little about it. It is 5 1/2 inches in diameter and an inch high...I managed to find out that it was produced after 1961 because the back stamp says "Holkham Pottery LTD Norfolk".
can anyone recognise the design style or who the artist might have been please.

Thank you.

A little known fact about Holkham Pottery - my brother-in-law worked there around 1970.

Picked up a pair of dark grey Holkham Owl mugs today, from the local RSPCA shop.
They join a Holkham mug which I bought from the same shop last year, which has the CR initials for Cyril Ruffles.

I think Skay is probably right
They did use red earthenware and the colour tones look about right.

I have a vase made by Holkham, it is 6" tall by 3" wise. its white with a protruding fish blowing multi-coloured bubbles which get bigger as they go up the vase. I can tell it must have been made after can tell from the back stamp it was made after 1961 but that's all I know so my questions are does any one know if it has a name and who designed and where there other sizes made and were there a lot of them made
thanks in advance

There was a link to a very good article on page 1 on this thread but the article seems to have been deleted from the internet, which is a shame as it might have been of help to you.
A picture of your vase would be more likely to jog memories.

Not sure who EL is, but it might be in this thread, along with info on the pottery -

...EL is probably the person at the pottery who made it. From the eyes, etc, it looks to be from the 1960s-70s

Re: Holkham Pottery
Your poodle is certainly unusual and it got me searching for the Holkham Hall newsletter that was posted on the internet and featured an article about the pottery, which had just been closed.
I did find the newsletter and have added a link to the thread above but, although a number of people who worked at the pottery over the years are mentioned, no-one with the initials E L was.

Re: Holkham Pottery
Holkham Hall (where the items were made) is just up the road from me, but I have never seen Holkham hall items marked this way, I have only seen them marked with a printed mark like the one on this page: http://www.studiopottery.com/cgi-bin/pp.cgi?item=6

Hello Mim
This is a long shot, I know but I have a real interest in the Holkham story.
It all started with a single pot I picked up in my local charity shop. I did some research and it wasn't long before I was captivated by the tale. I am intrigued by the circumstances surrounding the inception of pottery at Holkham and the way that a healing process was enabled through creativity.
It is clear that your Grandfather, the Cokes, Cyril Ruffles and all were at the heart of a fantastic story that grew out of the cataclysmic events of 1939-45. I own several pieces by Cyril. Unfortunately i have not had the pleasure of finding a (very rare, I assume) Keith Corrigan - yet.
I am so keen to know more about the story and the pots that were thrown in the early days before the commemorative stuff started to go into production but it is really hard to get any information at all.
Reading your post I know that you could furnish me with all sorts of knowledge on the subject and I am so eager to find it all out.
It's funny; when people see me going for Holkham pots on Ebay they always say: " is it worth loads?" and they will never understand that it's the story that fascinates not the monetary value.
I have major doubts that you will read this message but I write it anyway in hope.

The thing I like about Holkham is the warmth of the glazes. This tea/coffee pot has an inner light which you find on very few pots

I have found this piece which appears to be signed Holkham and initialled JR/JB, all pieces I have seen before have been stamped. This has the Holkham Celtic Band decoration and also I have seen other pieces with the wheat motif. Would anyone have any thoughts on this please John
