...I think it may be an Ikebana vase. There are similar ones on the bestamericanarts website.

I'm seeing EJL for the mark - with the slightly raised neck, I wondered if it was a foot warmer, but missing its cork or stopper

I'm pretty sure it's Raku Pottery, so as such I doubt it be actually be much use holding liquids for long periods.
