two Grayshott pottery mugs bought yesterday from a charity shop - with a nice cuppa
Re: Grayshott Pottery, plus Kingwood Pottery
The Grayshott Pottery began in 1956 in the village of the same name, taking over from the Kingwood Pottery that had operated in Brook near Wormley in Surrey (They also used the name Surrey Ceramics). It started out creating gift wares but broadened its production to domestic pottery with a "studio feel".
Naomi is incorrect above, as it acquired the Dartington Pottery in 2005 rather than the other way around, and all Dartington Pottery is now made at Grayshott.

Re: Grayshott Pottery, plus Kingwood Pottery
Two bowls and a clock by Grayshott Pottery. The larger bowl has a very similar glaze to Dartington's Ruskin range so probably made post-merger of the two potteries.
Clock has a label, larger bowl is stamped GRAYSHOTT, small bowl is unmarked.

The front is nice, but the clock itself is plastic c**p.

Grayshott mouse
Can anyone help me identify this vase. I have tried researching this, but currently not able to find anything about it. There's no markings, so too has limited my chances. It's roughly about 5 1/2" in height.

Teapot KP mark - Mick Dixon, Kingwood - early Grayshott Pottery
Teapot signed on the base R. Michael Dixon, plus KP mark and dated '73. Early Grayshott Pottery
Some info on unsigned pieces with the KP mark by Mick Dixon
and, Mick Dixon again, referring to the KP ink stamp that is found on Grayshott and Broadstairs Pottery lamp bases

"Probably made by Roy Saywell at Grayshott. They did not start using Stoneware till the move to Grayshott in the late 60s but Used the KP stamp on the thrown ware. The Pottery was stamping its ware with the name Surrey Ceramics which did not go down well with the shops they were supplying in the west country so reverted to the KP stamp on thrown ware."

Grayshott used KP (Kingwood Pottery) during the 70s as the Pottery was trading under "Surrey Ceramics" The hand thrown range was sold mainly in the west country so they reverted to the Kingwood mark as pots marked Surrey Ceramics did not sell well in Cornwall ! The pottery moved from Kingwood to Greyshott in the late 60s. There were several throwers at the time this was made including Roy Saywell, Alan Wallis, Judy Johnson, Mark Titchiner, & myself.

Kingwood Pottery - early Grayshott
Picked up this nice early Grayshott vase with fine ribbed design and cream glaze on a stoneware body, marks KP England. Would say 1950s. Just done some research and the KP mark could be for the Kingwood Pottery in Brook before the change over to Grayshott, if so probably before 1956 being stoneware.

Re: Grayshott Pottery, plus Kingwood Pottery
All I can say is “Possibly” by Joy Real, but you’d need to ask Mick Dixon, who’s now at Bartley Heath Pottery, to be sure

Sorry, mine were Greystoke Gill, a bit of a difference
Yes, isn't almost everything going cheap nowadays. The pottery scene wasn't doing that well anyway, but with all of this Brexit uncertainty around it seems to have dipped again, unless you have something really special.
I remember seeing a pile of Leaper plates on ebay a year or so back, I think they made around £15 or so if I remember rightly.

Grayshott also supply the restaurant trade under the name Surrey Ceramics, and have some rather big name customers including Wagamama, Nando's, and Frankie and Benny's.
Nice to see a British pottery still going strong.
