Hi, Identification needed on this teapot please. I am unable to find any information during my search. Even on the simple search through google images I am no closer to finding out about this little teapot. I appreciate your help.

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
Could do with a base picture please.
I think it's Chinese. (Far east anyway)
I would assume it's a mid-late 20th C version of something older.
Also looks like a tortoise, so that may help your searching.

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
I agree with Potty but perhaps even more recent that he suggests. Made for export.

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
I agree. Most probably modern Chinese, or possibly Japanese since they have a better sense of humour, aka, the tortoise.

Base pic? I am not sure what you are asking for. There is impressed numbers marked 53 to the base dia. area. Also can you be more specific when you say modern. I know roughly how long it has been in the family, which is approxiamately over 50 years and therefore is 20th century pottery. More than likely it could possibly be chinese. I have many pottery items made by the Chinese and would not part with them. I will definately look down that route as a possibility though. Thanx

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
If it's been in the family for +50 years it could be pre-war which would explain why there isn't a 'MADE IN CHINA' or 'MADE IN JAPAN' red ink stamp on the bottom.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing that it is Chinese.
The Chinese were the world leaders when it comes to porcelain, it was a long time before any other country could even compare to it.

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
I doubt it's pre-war to be honest and would not really have expected it to have been made before the 60's at best (I personally think it's later than the 60's though).

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
I can understand the difficulty in putting a more precise period on this. I have looked at some of the Japanese and Chinese sites and nothing yet, but will keep you posted if I find out anything. I am very grateful for all your help. Hopefully someone will recognise this teapot.
Thanx

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
It is very difficult to date any pottery from images but I think that there is agreement that it was probably made in the Far East around or after the mid 20th century.
It will have been made for export to the West and is not in any indigenous style that I recognise so might not appear on sites that show examples of Oriental ceramics.
Its appeal at the time of original purchase and today will be based on its whimiscal nature.

Re: Small Turtle TeaPot?
Thanx for you help. I managed to find one on google that was very similar, but could not find any information, as it was sold via. ioffer. I am steering towards this probably being Chinese, having looked at numerous pics.

It just amuses me that your now "steering towards this probably being Chinese, having looked at numerous pics.", when 3 of us had already said as much
