Unusual Studio Bowl...art/ sculptural ? Ideas please
Hi to all, Thanks to anyone taking the time to view.
Your thoughts on this one appreciated as i am not sure where to even start researching this piece.
I picked it up at a boot fair as it was interesting and like nothing ive ever seen before.
The conicle feet reminded me of styles in the 50s for some reason. The patterns and decoration looks a bit aboriginal.
So as you can see im grasping at not much at all !!
Bluish/ purple glaze inside, earth tones and black outside.

ooh, tough one. My first thought is a modern studio pottery by a Native American or Mexican potter, as the bowl seems to have elements from both types.

It def has those themes but I lean towards an artist being inspired by native American art, than it being an actual piece of native American art. They tend to use traditional forms and styles, very few actually explore more experimental or modernist forms. (But there are those that do, they are just in a very small minority.)
Don't ask me why, but my hunch would be to research Canadian artists, esp native American ones and those inspired by their themes.

i have also learned that the tripod bowl was popular in ancient costa rica but not so much with 4 feet... i shall keep changing tack untill i find the right course or get completely peeved with it and throw it back in the box for another few years.
