Odd horse and snake artefact - Italian possibly? Empty Odd horse and snake artefact - Italian possibly?

This is an odd little thing. I suspect the coiled snake was designed to hold a candle. Gilding is good, and it's nicely made, but no mark. I'm thinking it might be Italian, but apart from that I've no idea. Anyone?

Reminds me of a white sheep I once had, that had bits highlighted in gold. I think that was Italian.
