ID Please on this huge slip ware salt pig
Any ideas on this please? I expect there's loads of potters who make similar, so I'm not holding my breath!
It's around 12 inches tall.
Alan.

Re: ID Please on this huge slip ware salt pig
When I first saw it I thought of Wetheriggs Pottery, but after looking closer I doubt it, unless it's an early one.
My next thought was Coxwold Pottery, but I don't know enough about this pottery to know either way.
Finally I thought of Peter Currell Brown, what colour is the glaze inside?
Not much help I know, but it may be worth looking up those Pottery's.

My first thought was Wetheriggs too - an early one, as they more commonly known for their use of white slip on a blue background.
It's the right colours for Pantasaph Pottery, but I haven't seen any of their salt pigs.
It would be nice if it was an old Buckley piece, but since it's a traditional shape and traditional decoration I think the chances of identifying it without a mark is small.

Thanks very much folks - the inside glaze is the same as the exterior brown.

Another possibility is Clive Bowen's Shebbear Pottery. He didn't mark his pieces after 1975. I believe he's still going so it might be worth dropping him a line.

I am fairly certain that it is not by Clive Bowen or the Dicks at Coxwold (that's not meant to be abusive by the way).
