Pipe stand and table lighter ID Portugese?
I picked up these two pieces today from different sources and hoped to ID. My initial thought from the green basket like background was possibly Portugese. Would be very grateful for any thoughts or suggestions. Neither piece is marked and have felt covers over bases.
Thanks John

What is the clay?
If it's a soft white earthenware then I'd say Portuguese.
If it a hard paste porcelain I'd say German.

Thanks Naomi. Have attached photo, best I can get, looks to be white clay but having discovered small damaged area in lighter not sure if eathenware or porcelain. Would lean towards earthenware if pushed

I have seen turn of the century Delft with that sort of basket weave design, but with a blue, rather than a green glaze. But I'd expect it to be marked if that was the case.

Have now seen a similar pipe stand but with car motif which claims to be Japanese, any thoughts on possibility. Lighter itself is marked Penguin Japan but presumably these inserts could have been supplied to makers worldwide
