Assistance Needed with Identification of Pottery Vase
I am requesting help to identify maker and date of a pottery vase. It measures about 6 inches tall and 10 inches wide. Weight of about 3.5 lbs. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Assistance Needed with Identification of Pottery Vase
I'm wondering if it's Mexican or Native American. The base looks scuffed which is unusual if it was glaze, which implies a soft surface layer, so the brown might be a stain or a burnished clay on a low fired pottery.

I thought at first maybe Arts and Crafts, as I found it in the Midwest. Someone else thought maybe Mid-Century German. This one is really a mystery so far!!

If it was German or Arts & Crafts it would be more likely (although not always) to have a foot rim. Personally I think it's Native American pottery.

Does Native American have a glazed character like the vase? Or would that lead us more toward Mexican origin?

Ed suggests Peru and I came across a technique used by Cynirje Peruvian Pottery where they use smoke and natural clays and burnishing to build up the decoration. Since the brown surface decoration of this vase seems quite soft I suspect it's a similar low fired & burnished technique.
