Large stoneware platter/dish

Any ideas on this one? Haven't been able to find any info on its origins. Its a large heavy stoneware platter (or shallow dish) with a backstamp that appears to be "A" on "V" (though could obviously be "V" on "A"). The mark does not show up well, so had to "enhance" the photo of it; its recessed rather than raised, and has partially filled with the glaze. The platter is 19.5" dia. and about 2.5" deep. As you can see, the glaze is heavily pitted in some areas and the clay is a dark grey colour.
