It does remind me of Marianne Starck's stuff, designed for Michael Andersen & Son, but you'd expect it to be full marked - at least have the 3 fish in a shield stamp. And the pieces I've handled are pretty solid lumps of clay. This seems a bit too thin.
Same for Upsala pieces, however I did come across a completed listing on ebay, titled Upsala Ekeby, Sweden, "Nigeria" leaf dish 4270 by Mari Simmulson 1957-1960 hat has a similar pouring end. However the base is solid.
Maybe this is a piece designed by Simmulson or Stark for another company?

Upsala was my first thought , it is a bit of a mystery as you say nothing quite fits , but its of no matter as it is not for sale as i already love it to much, but would still like to know the designer manufacturer , i have had some pieces for years that i have only just recently identified all part of the fun i guess

I'd hang on to it too. It's wonderful.
The shape of the birds reminds me of my weird bird pen holder.

a fairly cheap buy from Ebay , you are almost always guaranteed a bargain because or less a piece is fully backstamped most folks dont have a clue , mind you nor do i but i bought it as it is really my sort of thing.
These days i seem to be collecting more and more items with a scandinavian influence some wonderful pieces out there inc Glass as well as Ceramics.

Scandinavian is definitely hot at the mo. Not much of it at the fairs except Copenhagen ceramics which doesn't seem to be selling as well as before.
Modern Czech glass is hot too.
