I suspect the Welsh plate is by Creigiau Pottery

It's possible that the thick glazed plate is Japanese and the A might be the Kanji character for 'big' or the first half of the Japanese word for Osaka, but that's a bit of a stretch. You'd need to examples with the same base, including foot rim, to be sure.
