Graham Fern - Porthleven Pottery - Page 2 Empty Graham & Fenella Fern: Update.

Post by potterymad62 July 14th 2017, 10:04 am

potterymad62 wrote:Graham Fern pottery tankard. He set up his pottery in the small seaside town of Porthleven near Helston in Cornwall UK. The pottery was very short lived and I think ran through the 70s & early 80s and closed in the mid late 80s. His daughter Fenella also a potter, never seen or came across any of her pots. They closed the pottery and moved to New Zealand and a great friend of Norman Taylor of the Bolingey Pottery.

There's not much details & info on the pottery. However I still doing the research on the pottery. The tankard below is one of Graham's fine Soda Glaze designs & his gf base marks.

I would just like to update the family relation between Graham & Fenella Fern. A while back on my blog page I wrote a short history on the Fern pottery, Porthleven. Not long after, a very close friend of the Fern family contacted me regarding some of the info in the blog. The information he gave me as follows, Fenella is Grahams daughter and not is wife. I have corrected the details above.

Thought I would just share this info with all here interested in the Fern Pottery.

Graham Fern - Porthleven Pottery - Page 2 Empty Small Pottery Vase - Graham Fern - Porthleven Pottery Cornwall.

Post by Roobarb July 3rd 2020, 12:27 pm

Hello Happy

This vase is approx 11cm in height and has what appears to be a lower case 'f' on the bottom. Does anyone recognise? Thank you! Apologies that the pictures are to the side - I'm not sure why this has happened.

See also Sonia Sjoholm’s thread. She worked as assistants to both Cheney and then Fern in the 60s-70s

Graham Fern - Porthleven Pottery - Page 2 Empty Graham Fern Bowl

Post by potterymad62 May 22nd 2023, 5:14 pm

Picked up this bowl today, now I'm very confident knowing my Graham Fern and his marks but would like some more opinions on the mark on this bowl, no Porthleven incised mark accompanying the gf. I have pencilled in for clearer view of the mark, Yes or No that's the question, cheers again.

It looks like his daughter's decorated the jug going by glaze. Graham would make the pots and his daughter occasionally decorated them and sign the pots with an F for Fenella. She also throwed pots.
