Re: Third edition BSPM
It's a guide book , a handbook , it's not the gospel truth and should be treated as such , further information can be got if people get off their arses and do a bit of research themselves .

Re: Third edition BSPM
I asked James if it would be an ebook when he first posted the news on Facebook, I don't think the publishers are interested but it does need a really intuitive way of searching - by studio location for instance, and a digital version/database would make that so much easier.
Re: Third edition BSPM
I may be old fashioned, but personally I'd much rather have a book to flick through than an "ebook".
I like the way the 2nd edition was laid out, I find it much easier to search than my copy of Godden's.

Unfortunately Ed,it is regarded as the Gospel Truth by a lot of people. Just because its the only book on the subject.
Do you wear a pair of heavy rimmed spectacles then skip?

Me too. I have a kindle but it's hopeless for research.

James might tell us but I know that Blacks wanted it is be an "app" as well. Whatever that means.

Unfortunate indeed.

Re: Third edition BSPM
The third edition will be a physical book rather than an eBook. I’m sure there comes a time when publishing a book such as this becomes economically unviable. That though is really for the publisher to decide. I wouldn’t rule out an eBook / online resource / app in the future BUT that is not based on anything other than my own thoughts.
I think what I wrote earlier was misleading. I’ve been able to add many new potters to the book, all of them are equally valued additions. They are all very busy people and I really appreciate all of the help they have provided. There are still many I’m waiting on BUT they will get back to me when their workloads permit them to do so. The paperwork is not an issue – its actually collating the words and facts for the entry. Also providing copies of seals etc etc is not as simple as it may sound. I’m just so appreciative that people are getting behind the book and are so willing and keen to be involved and to help. After all, without them there would be no book. The last thing I would want is for them to feel badgered and I do hope they don’t feel that way. I do send polite reminder emails every now and again!
I’ve also had contact with so many (hundreds of) potters who are already in the book that have kindly provided updates for their entries, be it new seals, a new studio address, a change of direction etc etc etc. Also many have contacted me to advise their details are unchanged but the additional comments these people make in their contact makes it so worthwhile. It’s amazing how supportive people have been
Thanks also for your supportive comments and help – also equally appreciated. I took this project on because of my passion for ceramics but also because it’s a book I have used over the years and wanted to carry on the amazing work of the previous authors. I certainly didn’t take it on for any financial incentive – Sadly!!! Ha – that is not what this is all about at all. I’ll be a happy and very proud man when it’s complete. And by doing it I’ve got to ‘virtually’ meet some lovely people and seen some amazing work that otherwise I might not have seen.
At the moment I think it will be published at some point in (probably late) 2014. I still have much work to do before I hand it over. But it’s getting there.

Re: Third edition BSPM
I wish potters would put pics of their marks on their own websites.

I agree, the odd base picture would be very useful too.
