Cumbrian pottery jug - Sue Bartholomew
A friend's mother bought this from the Lake District Vistors Centre a few years ago and can't remember who made it. The images below were sent to me by mobile phone and I have no idea............. so over to you.

I have a feeling I should have known this one. I think the potters name was unusual and has "Van" (or maybe "Von") in it.

Re: Cumbrian pottery jug - Sue Bartholomew
Following your suggestion I have been able to find a Jacob van der Beugel potting up there but it doesn't look like his work.
Thanks for the suggestion though and probably after a good night's sleep the name will come to you.

I've just Google'd that name, I don;t think it's the same potter I;m thinking.
The one I'm thinking tends to use a very similar textured matt blue glaze and sometimes has grotesque animal faces, say on the side of a bowl.
The glaze on the pots I'm thinking of, was much like the glaze used on Karin Hessenberg's work.

Re: Cumbrian pottery jug - Sue Bartholomew
I did look at the Potfest site and this year's exhibitors were listed but I couldn't see anything similar. They don't seem to keep a record of exhibitors from past years but I'll keep an eye on it.

Not who I was thinking before, but could it be early work by Simon Shaw? (long shot)
It has some similarity's, but his current work is different, as is his mark (also round sprigged, but 2 S's).

Carlos Van Reigersberg Versluys is who I was thinking of.
Not sure either way, but it's the closest I can think of.

Re: Cumbrian pottery jug - Sue Bartholomew
Thanks for that Potty. I'll pass the information on and, if it is him, the name should ring a bell.
