In 1938 Lampl moved to London and began making glass buttons from a small workshop in Great Chapel Street in London's Soho. It was at this time that a friend from Vienna, the potter Lucie Rie, went to work for him to earn some money. Although Lucie was purely a hired hand, you do fairly often see these glass Bimini buttons being offered for sale by unsculpulous or ignorant dealers and auction houses as being made and designed by Lucie Rie, with no mention of Fritz Lampl.
