Welcome to the Forum shanentracey.
Your vase is Japanese and what is known as Satuma ware, which was by and large made for export to the West from the late 19th century to the present day. It is not easy to date items like this, especially from pictures, but I would guess that it is probably from the 1920s/1930s or even later. I don't think that the mark would identify a factory but seems the type of mark added because someone buying a pot would expect it to have a mark.

Re: what does this stamp/mark mean
Well... I'm going to partially disagree with SP!
I think this vase is probably much later, my guess is sometime in the last quarter of the 20th century.
It's Japanese Satsuma in style, but may be a copy from China.
Just my opinion

Re: what does this stamp/mark mean
I would need photos that were in focus to be able to comment.

You could well be correct Potty, as the Satsuma wares that I've seen do tend to have Japanese character marks on the base.
I suppose to answer the question at the top of the thread though it does mean that the vase is of no real value.

Re: what does this stamp/mark mean
It's a decorative and useful vase either way

Big assumption to make based on very poor quality photos.

Re: what does this stamp/mark mean
I think it's justified and the pictures show enough to be honest, I'll go and hide under a table now
Value is relative anyway, I've got plenty of items of low commercial value that I'd not part with Hopefully the poster likes their vase as much as I like my items of similar value

Re: what does this stamp/mark mean
Searching for hand painted (assuming it is) Satsuma ware (assuming it's original Japanese rather than a later Chinese copy) on completed listings on ebay, then the vases making the money are the ones with the original Seto seal mark on the base. The rest are going for anything from £0 to £xx. Very few going for over £50.
Depends on what one's definition of 'real value' is.
