Another lamp base with the KP and Gondola Mark:
Did anyone make any progress with identifying this mark?
It seems to be porcelain to my untrained eye and stands about 20-25cm high.
What about the date? 1970s?
All the best,
Greenie

I have a lamp base with the identical stamp though I'm not in too much doubt about the maker of the piece itself. It looks very much like Broadstairs (Dianne Sanders?)and it wouldn't take much to persuade me that the lamp in the original post is too. I'm wondering if KP is a retailer stamp rather than a pottery. Is the K in KP "Kent maybe?
Two other pieces I own that are stamped Broadstairs ...

If it's a retailer then the pieces may be a mix of potteries.

Could it be different mark for Prices of Kensington? It's the first name that jumped for me although it is very different to the stuff I have seen by them so far. It could have been made for them?

Exactly what I was thinking Naomi. My piece certainly is Broadstairs and RV's could. But be Greenie's more abstract lamp doesn't look like any Broadstairs I've seen. I'd been puzzling over the mark for a while but when I saw this thread a retailer stamp or similar seemed the most obvious answer.

The thing in common here is they are all lampbases, which would require wiring-up
by an electrician. I have seen some of these before. Racking my brain for a Gondola
connection and came up with the Venetian festival at Hythe (in Kent), with
a flotilla of gondolas on the military canal.

KP for Kent Potteries (plural) maybe?

My dear Watson, how often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?
