Lunar Like Vase
Only picked this up this morning so have done no research at all yet thought I'd pop it on here first. In 2 minds about it, whether its something half decent or some art class type effort. I'm sure I've seen stuff in this shape before. Very porous feeling and has a scratched design which I'm not sure about how it was created, result of firing or possibly been dyed/painted after on a lunar coloured surface of black and white mottling. No marks and the base is a bit poorly finished. I like the moonlike feel and the basic pot shape and feel, but not so sure about the striping, could almost do without it which makes me feel art class, but I'm interested in your opinions. Thanks

Re: Lunar Like Vase
Well it's Raku / smoke fired, but like you I'm not sure either way if it is a keen amateur or something more.

Re: Lunar Like Vase
looks like a real amalgam of influences: Tower, Coper, Wallwork...but perhaps not hitting the mark with the quality (always hard to tell from photos).
Re: Lunar Like Vase
Thanks for your input, its a tricky one for me as I've not handled much in this style to really know if it 'feels rights' there are a few surface scratches and a couple of areas particularly on the left side of the first picture that could be careless finishing? The thing that dosen't seem quite right to me is the base not being quite flat. Unfortunately the market trader I bought it from had no clue as to its origins either. 'Just a bit of studio pottery mate no idea where it came from' was his actual reply when asked
