Wetheriggs Pottery
Found this when sorting some junk from the garage and I really like it.
It looks a lot nicer in person than the picture shows.
Anyone know the maker please?
Potty.

Re: Wetheriggs Pottery, Penrith
It could be from the Wetheriggs Pottery in Cumbria.
Is the last word of the mark "Pottery" and the first either Wetheriggs, Penrith, Cumberland or even Schofield? If so, then that is what it is.

Re: Wetheriggs Pottery, Penrith
Thanks again SP :D
Neither word says pottery I think, But after looking with several types of light I figured the 2nd word began with a P and after looking at Wetheriggs Pottery marks on this site http://www.studiopottery.com/cgi-bin/pg.cgi I'm fairly sure it says Schofield Penrith
Also the examples on that page are near identical in terms of construction/decoration.
Thanks again.

Salt Pig Id Please - Wetheriggs, Penrith
It's VERY difficult to make out this impressed mark I think it begins with either H or SH but I wouldn't swear to either. It's a lovely salt pig though!

Thank you. Now you have said Schofield I can just make out the letters, and I think I can see Penrith, but I can't see the Wetheriggs.

Wetheriggs Pottery, Penrith
Rather pleased with this recently acquired sliptrail-decorated earthenware vase from Wetheriggs Pottery, Clifton Dykes, Penrith, Cumbria. A nice addition to my growing collection of work from northern potteries. BSPM isn't terribly informative, just that it was founded in 1913 with a break 1940-1946. I'm assuming A Schofield was the founder followed by Harry Thorburn and Jonathan Snell (1972-89). The stamped mark isn't shown so no idea of date. Not very early I'm assuming given the condition of the vase.

Website for the potter who continues the tradition Mary Chappelhow

And it was Margaret Thorburn and John Schofield who founded the pottery in the 1860s it says...

And a bit more here with a reference to a book on the subject I'll have to acquire:

Re: Wetheriggs Pottery, Penrith
I now have Barbara Blenkinship's book on Wetheriggs which is very informative. I learn that my pot was made during Jonathan Snell's time running the pottery and the stamp dates it to post 1973 up to at least 1980.
Re: Wetheriggs Pottery, Penrith
Blue and white marbled pin dish; glazed base impressed (I think) "SCOFIELD".

Re: Wetheriggs Pottery, Penrith
Green vase about 25cm tall. Glazed base, mark hard to read, but apparently "SCHOFIELD", then definitely "PENRITH".

Re: Wetheriggs Pottery, Penrith
Might be. But then, there is your problem. Wetheriggs Penrith marked most of their stuff. It is not an uncommon decoration, and attribution to an unmarked piece is always just that. An attribution.ie an opinion.
