I just don't know where to begin with this one, is it Japanese, Chinese, a tourist piece?

Unusual. Not seen anything like that before. Looks like it's for serving 3 types of food. The decoration has a Persian look to it. Just a guess, but might be a Bhuddist/Tibetan dish or maybe a Japanese ceremonial dish. Characters on the back seem to be in two languages.

Thought they were different style of writing. The top and bottom are so different and the glazes underneath are pink and greys

I was wondering if the surface decoration was sanskrit, but if it is, it's highly stylized.
