Joan Brown - Richmond, Surrey

Thanks to some superb detective work by studio-pots I have been able to put a name to the maker of this wonderful ovoid stoneware vase in my collection, with its white and clear poured glaze over textured iron oxide stained body. Handbuilt with pedestal foot. c18.8cm (height). Bought as part of a lot of Alan Wallwork pieces from Alastair Hawtin's sale last year. Joan Brown had a studio in Richmond, Surrey 1970-1994 according to BSPM and then from 1995 she moved to Edinburgh, It's likely this piece is from the 1970s, those who know more about these things than me liken it to the work of Robert Fournier as well as Wallwork.
