Re: Steve Booton
non of the pots pictured on this thread show a really clear mark that was picked up by the camera,is it the same as those red SB marks on his wooden boxes?

Re: Steve Booton
They are very nice pieces. But I suppose its just me. Nothing really new, Lisa Hammond or Ruthanne Tudball and numerous others have been trading this ground for some time. Its all superbly done, and a natural progression from the Leach/Cardew school. But..... I'm jaded. Give me more quirky individuality please.

Re: Steve Booton
On the contrary Steve is at the top of his game and still coming up with new stuff. Yes, there are the Leach/Malone/Dodd/Rodgers/Hammond favourites popping up in his repertoire too, but he’s rapidly leaving them in the dust pile of has-beens as he experiments with shinos and other forms.

'but he’s rapidly leaving them in the dust pile of has-beens as he experiments with shinos and other forms.' You do like him a lot don't you Naomi!
I think you get me wrong. Its purely a personal reaction. I actually agree with you to some extent, he does some excellent work indeed. But.....the question at the back of my mind, is just how much more mileage is there in the Anglic interpretation of Korean/Japanese Pottery? In the end, is it now becoming a cul-de-sac?
When one starts talking about shino glazes, wood firing, etc it is a very specialist field that you have to have a substantial knowledge of the subject to understand! Amongst many of a younger generation that knowledge is just not there, and probably never will be. Its literally is a dying market.

Re: Steve Booton
That assumes collectors are Only collecting shino or wood fired pottery (Steve fires with gas) when these days they have access to an international online market. Compare Booton’s work to Japanese and US potters and he’s making pieces that any collector of teabowls would want; he just needs a few more years to get a wider audience.

Its an interesting discussion Naomi, perhaps worth a thread of its own. Markets, and tastes, and how any craft person at all makes a decent living in today's markets. Steve Booton does lovely work. I wish him luck.

Stoneware Pot and Bowl - Steve Booton
Hallo all.
The pot is approx 12cms tall and the bowl is approx 7cms tall. I think these may be by the same crafts-person, but I cannot be certain as the bowl mark is less clear. Assuming I have it the right-way-up, the mark suggests a stylised 'SB', however, I am unable to find a match (in a circle) when ploughing through Fournier. Some possibilities ate Susanna L Blatherwick, Steve Booton and Susan Bruce.
Can anybody help[ me identify this maker (or makers) please?
Thank you.
Jack.

Re: Steve Booton
That looks like Steve Booton's work and mark.
There is also a Brian Smith who had the same mark, but not his style of pot. https://pin.it/w3z44m22z6pnzl

Re: Steve Booton
Thank you Naomi and Desert Collector, I much appreciate your suggestions.
I have looked at both Suzanne Bloch-Jorgensen and Steve Booton's work and my feeling is that these are Steve Booton's works. Party because of the strong similarity to items on the net (and this site) and also because I purchased them in Lancashire and Steve's studio is relatively close in Yorkshire...whereas Suzanne is based in New Zealand.
However, it is interesting that Steve's and Suzanne's marks are so very similar.
Again, thank you both.
