however its a bit much refering to Aberystwyth as 'the back of beyound' especially from someone in south London  

To some S. E. London might seem like the back of beyond too but out of interest I checked the time that it would take on public transport from here to Aberystwyth and it works out at just under 6 hours with 3 changes.

From here to Nice or Toulon with one change it would take less than half that time.

I suppose it's all relevant to where your starting point is  and the west coast of wales is a better place to visit .
