On the fence over this: student or professional? Leaning towards student.
On the one hand the glaze is great and the base is clean.
On the other hand the potting leaves something to be desired, unless the potter was deliberately going for the naive look (Looks slab moulded rather than wheel turned. Rim is a bit wonky where it's been held while the inside was decorated, and it still has signs of the straight edge from when the slab was cut to shape, and there's some crazing where the glaze has pooled in the corners).
Unmarked. 10" x 8.5" x 2.5"

It looks to have been moulded on a hump, as traditional British slipware was done in the past. Glazes look professional but it could be an amateur, who was given help with the glazing as you suggest.

Yeah, I'm thinking pottery course run by someone of Nic Harrison's calibre.

Now wondering if it's by John Christie, Blackhills.

Reply back from John Christie saying it's not one of his, but suggests I try
Unfortunately Hughes died in 2006 so I can't ask him.Edward Hughes, but that the absence of a
stamp would be unusual.
Other potters who use that type of glaze (nooka) include Mike Dodd and Phil Rogers but as far as I know they do not make pressed dishes

Phil Rogers says it's not one of his, but says it looks a professional piece.

I agree with SP , the glaze and the base are miles apart and with no signature , well surely a pro would sign it

I would have thought most hobby potters and night class attenders signed also to be sure to get their own pieces from a communal firing

Some just use a paper label.

Yeah , very true, but we do find ceramics in shops that are never signed, probably because it was a factory or group production for toursit shops etc , you know what I mean not mass produced but enough to sell for a few quid

I think it may well be by Edward Hughes. John Christie said the absence of a mark would be unusual but I've come across a pot of his with just a label, so not so unusual after all. Also it's the right coloured clay, he made these shaped dishes, and he went over to Japan for a while which would explain the choice and competence of the glaze.
