MF mark on cup? Help needed please
Found this cup and tennis plate at a car boot, nice hand painted floral design marked MF on the base.

Re: MF mark on cup? Help needed please
Looks to me like MF is the artist who painted them, but they probably bought gilded blanks rather than made the cup / saucer themselves.

I agree with potty about it being a blank that someone has decorated themselves. Sometimes decorators at the factory were allowed to decorate a set for their own wedding, anniversary or retirement.
Looks like fine bone china from the 30s (or possibly 50s; designs didn't change much until the 60s). Difficult to know which factory it came from without a mark, but probably one of the Staffordshire ones.

Yeah I agree Naomi, looks 30's/50's to me. Rather sad that it ended up at a car boot sale if this was for someone's special occasion.

Well people die and their relatives don't appreciate their stuff so it gets sold at carboots or dumped at charity shops. Such is life, and great for us collectors
A bit sobering to think that that's probably where our favourite bits and bobs will end up too when we're gone.
