Re: Spode?
Checked on the Potteries website and they say the initials S & E "are often in a flowing script", where as your photo shows the S in capitals rather than script. And, again, there's the incongruous Made In England stamp that indicates a 20th Century date, where as Swift & Elkin only operated from 1840-43.RoyJ99 wrote:Update and bump.
This mark has now been ID'd as Swift and Elkin of Longton who produced during the mid 19th century. Strange with the "Made In England" but some producers did add this long before they were required.

Yeah I am a bit confused about the "made In England" however it was id'd by the ceramics department of a large international auction house so I kinda need to go with them I think.

I'm shocked. Maybe it's in Goden. I'll check my copy if I can find it.RoyJ99 wrote:Yeah I am a bit confused about the "made In England" however it was id'd by the ceramics department of a large international auction house so I kinda need to go with them I think.

Re: Spode?
Ok another update and this time I'm sure the mystery has been solved. Stumbled upon it when researching a jug I'd bought. I believe the mark is one of Samuel Johnson, Burslem as seen in photo below. Although it had been id'd by an auction house it didn't seem to fit in my opinion, I know Naomi seemed surprised as well. Feedback appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Spode?
Also should add that I have looked at a number of images to check examples of thier teapots and the style does seem to match.

Re: Spode?
It always pays to double check an attribution.

Re: Spode?
especially these days when many have got rid of the experts (as they cost too much) and replaced them with youngsters who have a degree and nothing else.
