Small white metal object with hanging loop
Hi
Hope someone will have an idea what this strange little object might be. It is only 4 cm long including the hanging loop.
The little wheel, which is minutely notched , revolves. Looks a bit like a tiny glass cutter ? Would it hang on a necklace or an albert chain?
Hope the photos are clear enough, although the one showing a mark under the wheel is pretty poor but reads G or C FRUNCK STOCKHOLM.
Any suggestions gratefully received !

Re: Small white metal object with hanging loop
Couldn't find anything similar for glass cutter. Also tried can opener and nothing again. Looking at the wheel and the pointed end, I think it might be a seam marker; possibly for leather. It would leave an indented line, and the notches on the wheel would space out the stitches.

Hi
Thanks for your thoughts.
I'm wondering if it is a small scale version of a tool to be used as a pendant on a necklace. It surely can't be used for real at this scale, although it is beautifully made and I've discovered that the wheel moves backwards and forwards along the threaded spindle.
I've Googled 'Swedish leather working tools 'with no results.
Anyway someone else may have further thoughts on it
Thanks again

Re: Small white metal object with hanging loop
I've tried that Carolyn, but no luck.
A friend has suggested it may be a miniature map measuring instrument. I've tried it and it's fairly accurate. You have to wind the wheel to the extreme end of the spindle then run the wheel along ,for eg, the road on the map. Turn it over and run the wheel back the other way along the distance scale until it can't turn any further and read off the distance- et voila!! Hope that makes sense!
Using it on a map in a moving vehicle might be a bit tricky.
I've tried Googling every variation of description with no hits , so maybe its unique

Re: Small white metal object with hanging loop
Found this on ebay - larger, not as attractive and made in England. So the suggestion I received was correct
'Vintage map measurer & curvimeter with instructions'
Thought you may be interested to know what it is

Re: Small white metal object with hanging loop
my partner, a bookdealer and erstwhile bookbinder, thinks it's most likely a variation of a bookbinders tool for impressing lines around the cover of books which are then gilded.

If you can adjust the position of the wheel so that it's closer or further from the pointed side, this would indicate the distance from edge of the boards that you want to impress the line.

Mystery solved. What a clever little tool.
